Kalvin and Dylan matched on Hinge in May or June of 2022. After weeks — or possibly months — of FaceTimes, texts, and a few first-date attempts that didn't quite work out, they finally had their official first date on July 25. It was a backyard bonfire at Dylan's house, partly so she could keep an eye on her dog, Buddy Holly, who had recently had surgery.

They talked for probably way too long, as they both tend to do, gave Buddy Holly plenty of attention, and knew right away that something about this time felt different. Special, even.

At the time, Dylan was finishing up her role as a Software Engineer at a health-tech company while simultaneously ramping up as a Senior Software Engineer at a social media company in LA, though both jobs were remote. Kalvin was a Defensive Line Coach at Valley Christian High School in San Jose and would come home to LA on weekends when there were no games.

Dylan eventually went up to visit Kalvin and see him coach in his element. After the game, the two went camping for the weekend with Kalvin's friends and former teammate. Buddy Holly came along too, though he was the only one truly comfortable sleeping on the dog bed inside the tent. Dylan still tries to convince Kalvin to go camping, but Kalvin remains firmly in favor of a nice bed and minimal mosquitoes.

The two spent more and more time together, though neither was in a rush to put a label on things. It wasn't until Friendsgiving at Fuller House, a friend's house, that they finally had "the talk." As of November 20, 2022, they were officially dating. Shortly after, football season ended, Kalvin moved home to LA, and the two became nearly inseparable.

Kalvin began working as a fashion designer and salesman for Nick Fouquet in Venice, where he thrived being creative, working with friends, and amassing an extensive custom hat collection — mostly of his own designs.

In April of the following year, Kalvin moved in with Dylan and Buddy Holly. Sadly, Buddy passed away the next year at nearly 15 years old. Dylan and Kalvin had been planning a quinceañera for Buddy, but heartbreakingly, it never happened. They both loved Buddy deeply and miss him dearly.

Dylan and Kalvin continued living together in Culver City, fostering and dog-sitting many dogs over the next year. They also traveled whenever they could — Mexico for family vacations, Joshua Tree with friends, music festivals, and more.

In March of 2024, they foster-failed Mama Mavis, a 7-ish-year-old Pit Bull and Shar Pei mix. She is a princess, the light of their lives, and, as most people reading this can attest, an elite cuddler.

In June of 2024, Kalvin and Dylan traveled to Greece for a wedding, where Kalvin surprised Dylan with a proposal in front of the Acropolis. Dylan's answer was an enthusiastic, "Of course!"

Kalvin and Dylan already had the ring they wanted to use as an engagement ring, but it was safely back in the United States. So when Kalvin proposed, he presented Dylan with a box of placeholder rings to choose from — because the moment mattered more than the logistics.

Neither Dylan nor Kalvin was in a hurry to get married right away. For a while, they simply enjoyed calling each other "fiancé" and sharing the good news with the people they loved.

In June of 2025, they officially — but casually — celebrated their engagement with friends and family in Santa Monica, California. At the party, they took a poll asking guests whether they should get married locally or somewhere on vacation. A destination wedding was the clear winner, though the two still took their time before diving into planning.

The next year brought even more travel and adventure: more Mexico, Croatia, and eventually Costa Rica, where they began imagining the wedding they wanted to create.

In October of 2025, Dylan accepted a position as a Staff Front-End Engineer at Code Metal, where she builds full-stack applications that support specialized artificial intelligence workflows for mission-critical hardware.

As of March 17, 2026, Dylan and Kalvin entered into a legal domestic partnership as a way to ease into the legal side of marriage. Around the same time, Kalvin transitioned out of his full-time role in fashion to become the new Defensive Line Coach at Long Beach Poly High School, though he still works occasionally at the haberdashery.

Now, Kalvin and Dylan are ready to make things fully official and celebrate with you in March 2027 in Costa Rica.
